‘The Langston Hughes Project’ set for Tuesday at Pensacola State Jubilant music, spoken word poetry and visuals are all part of “The Langston Hughes Project: Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz” set for Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Pensacola State College. Presented by Dr. Ron McCurdy along with a talented group of musicians, the show is set for 7:30 p.m. in Ashmore Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus at 1000 College Blvd. Guaranteed to make heads bob, fingers snap and feet tap, the multimedia concert performance links the words and music of Hughes’ poem, “Ask Your Mama,” to topical images of people, places and events. “Ask Your Mama” is a 12-part epic poem which Hughes scored with musical cues drawn from blues and Dixieland, gospel songs, boogie woogie, bebop and progressive jazz, Latin “cha cha” and Afro-Cuban mambo music, German lieder, Jewish liturgy, West Indians calypso and African drumming. Tickets are $11, adults; $9, seniors, non-PSC students and children; $7, PSC Seniors Club, PSC Alumni Association members, PSC faculty and staff; and free for PSC students with current ID.
